What a brilliant first full week back it’s been in Year 6. The children have settled straight back into routines and have shown great focus and enthusiasm across all of their lessons.
On Wednesday, we were lucky enough to watch Rickmansworth School’s fantastic performance of Guys and Dolls Jr. The children were completely absorbed in the singing, dancing and storytelling, and it was lovely to see them so inspired by older pupils.
Later that day, we began Week 1 of our Positive Minds programme. This first session focused on understanding what mental health is. The children learned that everyone has mental health, just like everyone has physical health, and that even celebrities and people who seem confident can struggle at times. The discussions were thoughtful and mature, and we’re looking forward to building on this learning throughout the term.
In Science, we carried out a voltage investigation, exploring how the number of cells in a circuit affects the brightness of a bulb. The children worked carefully and safely, making predictions, testing circuits and recording their findings.
In History, we stepped into the shoes of wartime evacuees by writing letters home. They worked hard to capture the emotions, worries and hopes that children their age might have felt during World War Two.
In PSHE, we explored how quickly things can spread online, even if we think we’ve deleted them. The children showed great awareness of how important it is to stay safe and think carefully before posting or sharing anything.
