Friday 16th January
Year 3 have enjoyed their first full week of the spring term and have now discovered all the topic themes we will be working on this half-term.
In English this week, we have gone through the whole of our model text and started to work on the setting toolkit that compliments this narrative. Next week we will continue with short burst writing tasks based on our toolkit to develop our writing skills further.
In Maths, we have been looking at grouping as well as calculations involving multiples of 3. Next week we will be working on the 4 times table, and then moving on to focusing on multiples of 8.
Foundation Subjects:
History – We delved further into our topic on the Egyptians by discovering how they used hieroglyphics to document information.
Art – This week we shone a light on the work of Claes Oldenburg who produced many famous pop art sculptures.
Science – We discovered what a ‘contact’ and ‘non-contact force’ is, and tested a variety of PE & play equipment to see which ones required us to push or pull to achieve the desired movement.
PSHE – We started our topic on keeping safe. This week we focused on situations that could be dangerous, and discussed how to make the right choice to keep ourselves safe.
Home Learning:
Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times tables.
Reading - Please ensure that you have listened to your child read at least five times during the week and signed their reading record each time, so that they can be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.
Spellings - Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation as well as writing them in a sentence. There are also 5 bonus words for those who would like to take on a spelling challenge.
This week’s spelling rule will focus on words that end: le, el and al
April, pupil, pencil, stencil, council, basil, fossils
Challenge words –
mystical, squirrel, normal, article, multiple
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
