Friday 16th January

In English, we have continued to explore our model text, which skilfully blends historical fiction with rich setting description. We focused on key elements from our writing toolkit, including fronted adverbials of time, using weather to create atmosphere, selecting effective synonyms, and personifying our setting. The children were encouraged to make adventurous vocabulary choices, using words such as crimson instead of red, to bring their writing to life.

In Maths, we have been learning how to multiply and divide by 10 and 100. A strong emphasis was placed on understanding that digits move one or two places up or down the place value chart. This secure understanding will support pupils’ future learning, particularly when working with decimals.

In Art, the children designed their very own fonts using natural and found materials such as nuts, bolts, and twigs. They carefully constructed letter shapes and then sketched their designs, considering both upper- and lower-case forms of a chosen letter.

In Geography, we began using atlases to identify areas of raised ground and locate mountain ranges around the world. The children examined a range of mountains and discussed their features and locations in detail.

During Guided Reading, we explored an excerpt from All Together Now. The discussions that followed were thoughtful and insightful, showing a growing depth of understanding and engagement with the text.

In RE, we started our learning about Hinduism. We explored the ancient Indian game Moksha Patam (known to us as Snakes and Ladders), which provided a valuable way for children to understand how positive actions (ladders) help us progress in life, while negative actions (snakes) can hold us back.

In Music, we are continuing to learn our songs for Young Voices. Please let the school know if you are experiencing any difficulties logging in to access the songs. It would be greatly appreciated if children could practise the songs at home to support their confidence and enjoyment.

Finally, in PSHE, we have begun our new topic, Keeping Myself Safe. The children learned to define and distinguish between the terms dangerrisk, and hazard, and discussed why understanding these differences is important.

Our Spellings focused on words with the suffix -est. ’. These are available to practise on Doodle Learning or on the paper.

Homework: Doodle English and Maths were set this morning. They need to be completed by Thursday 22nd January 2026.

Please ensure children are reading at least 5 times a week. We had 4 children achieving their silver reading badge today!

TTRS - 14 minutes over the course of the week.

Dance: In preparation for the Dance Festival Mrs Bennett has asked that pupils bring in an umbrella to use as a prop.
