Our Learning This Week

It has been another busy and exciting week of learning!

In PSHE, we have been learning how to negotiate respectfully and reach a compromise when we disagree with someone. We practised using kind and respectful language, listening carefully to others and using ‘I’ statements to express our thoughts and feelings.

In Geography, we have been planning our very own independent fieldwork enquiries. We began by learning about the different data collection methods that geographers use. We then selected the methods that would best suit our own enquiry questions and carefully planned how we will carry out our investigations. We are looking forward to putting our plans into action!

As part of our Structures topic in DT, we began designing our own miniature playground equipment. We researched real playground designs to inspire our ideas before sketching our initial designs. We will be building our models over the coming weeks, and we can’t wait to see our ideas come to life!

In RE, we acted out Proverbs 6:16–19 and then illustrated the seven areas described in the passage. This helped us to explore and understand the meaning of the verses in a creative way.

In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of rounding, negative numbers, and comparing and ordering numbers up to eight digits. We have been applying our skills to a range of different challenges.

In English, we have been learning about sentences containing a colon, where the first clause provides a description and the second clause gives further detail. We have also been learning more of our model text and thinking carefully about how it links to our upcoming History topic.

During Guided Reading, we explored an extract from Matilda by Roald Dahl. We delved into the rich vocabulary used by the author, including hankering, unaccompanied, enlightened, devouring, absorbed and instinctively. We discussed the meanings of these words and considered how they contribute to the text.

Finally, in Science, we learned about the composition of blood and created a pie chart to represent its different components. We also explored the functions of the different cells found within our blood and how they help our bodies to work effectively.

What a fantastic week of learning! We are excited to continue building on all that we have learned in the weeks ahead.
