Friday 9th October

It has been another busy and exciting week in Year 6, filled with creativity, collaboration and plenty of learning!

Geography - This week, we have been creating Google Slides presentations to showcase our findings from our Geography field trip. We analysed the data we collected and presented our results using pie charts and bullet points, helping us communicate our findings clearly and effectively.

English - Having finished planning our stories, we have begun writing our first drafts. We are focusing on including all the key elements of our writing toolkit: dialogue to reveal character, action to show character, detailed description sentences and a three-bad-dash question. We are looking forward to seeing our imaginative stories develop!

Maths - In Maths, we have been practising both column multiplication and mental multiplication strategies. For example, we can calculate 79 × 9 by multiplying 79 by 10 and then subtracting one lot of 79. We have also been practising division using the bus stop method, which has highlighted just how important it is to know our multiplication and division facts.

Please encourage your child to keep practising their times tables at home to help keep these essential skills fresh and build confidence when tackling more challenging calculations.

Design and Technology (DT) - Our playground projects are now complete! The finished models are an incredible showcase of the children's creativity, problem-solving skills and collaboration. We are so proud of the effort and imagination that have gone into bringing their designs to life.

Guided Reading - As part of our learning for Black History Month, we explored an extract from Man-Man and the Tree of Memories. This gave us an opportunity to engage with the text and develop our reading and comprehension skills.

PSHE - This week, we focused on friendships and the importance of being assertive. We discussed how to respond confidently and respectfully when someone asks us to do something that makes us feel uncomfortable, reinforcing the importance of making positive choices and setting personal boundaries.

Grammar - In Grammar, we have been identifying the subject of a sentence. We have been remembering our golden rule: to find the subject, ask, “Who does the action?” This simple question helps us identify who or what the sentence is about.

An Action-Packed Visit to Harefield School!

On Thursday, Year 6 had an action-packed morning. To begin with, Year 6 had lots of fun trying out gymnastics on the sprung floor, using a range of different equipment. They showed great enthusiasm, confidence and determination as they tackled each activity! They then headed to the art room, where Miss Tuesday led them in creating their very own stamps. They had to remember an important detail — reversing their lettering so that our words would print the right way around! Finally, they headed to the DT woodwork room, where they turned laser-cut pieces into their very own moving toys.  They measured and cut wood, assembled all the different pieces and watched their creations come to life! A huge thank you to Harefield Academy for hosting Year 6 and providing such a fantastic range of hands-on activities.

Well done, Year 6, for another fantastic week of learning!
