It was lovely to see so many of you at our Meet the Teacher meeting on Monday.  I hope you found the information shared useful, and that it gave you a clearer overview of what is to come for the children in Year 3.

This week in English, we discovered the conclusion of our model text. Thankfully, the fire did finally end, and our main character, James, was deemed a hero!

We have also been focusing on one of our main toolkits – Dialogue – ensuring that we accurately use inverted commas in the correct places, include a variety of vocabulary to show how a person is talking (reported clauses), and feature the action a character is doing while they are speaking.

In Maths, we have continued with our topic on place value, looking at hundreds, tens and ones, as well as exploring how we can partition numbers.

Foundation Subjects:

In Science, we built upon our previous lesson, which focused on igneous rocks, by investigating the properties of sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.

In Art, we explored the ways Stone Age people made colours from natural resources to use in their cave art. We all had a go at creating our own colour charts for the various shades of brown they might have used.

In History, we shone a light on the Stone Age settlement of Skara Brae, which was discovered in 1850. This gave us a real insight into what it might have been like to live in a Stone Age house.

In Music, we are exploring the theme of ballads and how they are used to tell a story. This week, we had a go at producing a simple storyboard for part of David Bowie’s Space Oddity.

In PSHE, we looked at the qualities of a good friend and explored how we can repair a friendship when we have a falling out with someone.

In RE, we looked at the meaning of the term ‘Trinity’ and explored how this is featured in various texts.

Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and remaining in the green zone for English, Maths and Times Tables.

Reading - Please ensure that you have listened to your child read at least five times during the week and signed their reading record each time, so that they can be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.

Spellings - Below is a selection of this week’s spelling words which could be practised with your child, both in isolation and by writing them in a sentence.

This week’s spelling rule will focus on words ending in -le / -el / -il / -al:

Bubble, magical, couple, natural, council, vehicle, mystical, royal, squirrel, example.

Change Maker Project

This half-term, we are focusing on the value of ‘Friendship’. Your child will have selected an activity that they wish to work on during our class-based Collective Worship this week. Please do continue supporting them as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity.

As we enter the colder season, please could I kindly ask for donations of boxes of tissues for our class?
