Friday 9th October

It has been a very busy but enjoyable week in Year 3!
In English, we have now covered all of our focus toolkits and have started to apply our newly acquired skills to create our own characterisation narratives. We will continue working on these next week.
In Maths, we have been focusing on adding and subtracting 1, 10 and 100 from a three-digit number, while making links between our new topic and what we have previously learnt in our Place Value unit. Next week, we will be exploring how to add across a ten and a hundred.
Foundation Subjects
In Science, we investigated the permeability of three different types of rock. We carried out an experiment to test which rocks changed in weight after being left in water for 24 hours.
In Art, we experimented with recreating a variety of cave art images on different textures of paper.
In PSHE, we discussed what a dare is and considered how we should respond when faced with one, thinking carefully about the choices we make in these situations.
In Music, we created a story mountain for a short animated film clip. Next week, we will use our story mountains to write lyrics to accompany the story and create our own class ballad.
In RE, we have been reviewing and evaluating our learning about what Christians believe about the Trinity and what happened at Jesus’ baptism.
Home Learning
Doodle - Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and aiming to remain in the green zone for English, Maths and Times Tables.
Reading - Please ensure that you listen to your child read at least five times during the week and sign their reading record each time. This will allow them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts.
Spellings - Below is a selection of this week’s spelling words, which can be practised with your child both in isolation and by using them in sentences.
This week’s spelling focus is adding vowel suffixes when the final consonant is doubled in one-syllable words.
moaned, dragged, screaming, begging, hottest, tricky, gripping, flipped
Change Maker Project
Please start sending in any evidence your child has collected for the task they chose from the Friendship section of the Change Maker Project. We are really looking forward to seeing and celebrating their efforts!
