1st May 2026

This week in Year 1, we have had another busy and exciting week of learning across all subjects.

In Maths, we have been learning about arrays. The children explored how objects can be arranged in rows and columns to help with counting and understanding multiplication.

In English, we have been looking at onomatopoeias. We enjoyed discovering words that sound like the noises they describe, such as buzz, bang, and crash, and used them in our writing.

In RE, we have been learning about the celebration of Sukkot. The children explored why this special festival is important in the Jewish faith and how it is celebrated.

In History, we have been learning about early flying inventions. We looked at how inventors experimented with different ideas to help humans take to the skies.

In Science, we have been learning about the different parts of trees and plants. The children identified roots, stems, trunks, branches, leaves, and flowers, and discussed how each part helps the plant to grow.

To support learning at home, please continue to read at least five times a week and record this in your child’s reading record and practice spelling and handwriting.

Please look at the Change maker project and have a chat with your child about what challenge they will want to achieve from the Courage challenges for this term.
