Notices:

Please ensure reading books are in school every day, especially on your child’s reading day.

Spelling books should be brought in every Wednesday. We will return them on Thursday with new spellings and handwriting.

We kindly ask that friendship bracelets and similar items are left at home, as they are starting to become a distraction in class.

This week in Year 1 we have been busy exploring and learning in lots of exciting ways. In our topic work we looked closely at different objects and thought about why they are made from certain materials. The children enjoyed investigating which materials are strong, bendy, or waterproof, and deciding why these qualities make them useful for building.

In Art, we continued to explore spirals and had fun creating our own using a range of different media. The children really enjoyed experimenting with new techniques and seeing how each material changed the look of their spiral designs.

In English, we have been working on adding more description to our sentences. The children have impressed us with the wonderful words they are using, and we have now started to plan and write our own stories. There have been some fantastic, imaginative ideas taking shape!

In maths, we have been practising finding one more and one less than a number. The children are becoming much more confident with this and are starting to see the patterns and connections between numbers.
