17th October

This week in Year 1, we have been busy exploring lots of exciting topics across all our subjects!

In Maths, we focused on part-part-whole models. These help us understand how numbers can be split into different parts, which makes adding and subtracting easier. We enjoyed using colourful counters and drawings to help us see the numbers in different ways.

In English, we continued to build our writing skills by adding adjectives to sentences. This helps our writing become more interesting and detailed. We practised describing objects and ideas around us, making our sentences come to life with exciting words!

In Science, we learnt about absorbent and waterproof materials. We even carried out an experiment to find out which material would be best for an umbrella. It was exciting to test different materials and see which ones kept us dry the longest!

In History, we discovered what time capsules are and why people create them. We talked about what we might include in a time capsule to show future generations what our lives are like today.

In PSHE, we explored how to fix mistakes by apologising and making things right. We learnt that saying sorry and taking action to repair our mistakes helps us be kind and responsible friends.
