12th September

This week has been full of exciting learning across all our subjects. In English, we have been enjoying the story The Smartest Giant in Town, which has helped us to develop our description skills by thinking carefully about how to describe characters and events. In Maths, we have been sorting shapes and practising how to count a smaller amount from a larger group.

In Science, we started our new topic on materials. We explored the classroom and had fun identifying different objects and what they are made from. History has taken us back in time as we learned about timelines and how they help us to see what has happened in the right order through history.

In RE, we discovered what a parable is and read the story of The Prodigal Son, thinking about its meaning and what it teaches us. In PSHE, we spent time discussing our school rules and thought carefully about how these rules help to keep us safe every day.

Notices

Please send reading books in everyday so that we can use any extra time during the day to read together, giving them a little extra boost in their reading skills.

Mondays will be our library day so any books lying around at home can come back on Monday would be great.

I have attached a table to help you know what Year 1 will need each day of the week.

Going home this week are the children’s spelling books. Please support your child to learn their words at home. We will test them on these spellings every Wednesday. There is also a handwriting sheet to support the children's writing please ensure the children are forming the letters correctly.

For our History lesson next week, we will be looking at our own personal history. To help with this, please could you send in photographs of your child as a baby, as a toddler, and a recent picture of them now. These will be used to support their learning in class.

Thank you for your continued support!

The year 1 team!
