27th February 2026
We've had a fantastic start back at school and have launched into our new units of learning with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Our week began with a visit from Mr Harrington from the Watford Schools Sports Partnership. He spoke to the children about what a healthy lifestyle looks like, sharing practical advice about exercise, balanced nutrition, and positive daily habits. The class engaged thoughtfully and contributed some excellent ideas of their own.
In Maths, we have continued our work on fractions. The children have been learning to recognise and find a quarter, a third, a whole, and a unit fraction. They have drawn a range of shapes to represent fractions and used cubes to calculate fractions of a whole amount, developing both their conceptual understanding and practical skills.
In English, our writing focus this half-term is recounts, using fairy tales as our stimulus text type. This week’s “hook” lesson involved guessing the fairy tale from a mystery food item — a very exciting (and tasty!) way to begin our learning. We have explored the key features of fairy tales and introduced time connectives and adverbs to support chronological recount writing. Next week, we will extend our sentence structures by using conjunctions such as or and when.
Other highlights this week include:
• Exploring the “Big Bible” story in RE
• Learning to play pitch patterns on the chime bars in Music
• Investigating how buildings have changed since 1666, as we begin our History topic on the Great Fire of London
