Friday 17th April
It was lovely to welcome all of our brilliant Year 2s back to school on Wednesday:) We hope you all enjoyed a refreshing Easter holiday.
In English this week, our focus has been on editing and publishing our diary recounts of the Great Fire of London. We edited for sense, correct punctuation and spelling, adding in 2A phrases and improving vocabulary choices. We had lots of good discussion about using synonyms wisely! Next week we will begin our next unit: a suspense story.
In Maths next week, we will continue to learn about reading and making the time. Monday's lesson will be a revision of: o'clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to, minutes past. Please support your child to be confident with these times, on an analogue clock.
Foundation subject topics for Summer 1:
Art: Tinga Tinga animals
Geography: Lagos, Nigeria - comparing a contrasting location with Rickmansworth
Music: Glockenspiel Fest! - learning to read the first notes of musical notation on the glockenspiels and chime bars
PSHCE: Being my Best
PE: Jumping and dodging
RE: Islam - How do some Muslims show compassion?
Science: Plants
Show and Tell: (on Wednesday 22nd April)
Alex, Amelia, Angelo, Apostolos, Betty, Beau
Spellings:
We did not send any spelling lists out this week - a gentle start back!
Reading:
Thank you for keeping the reading going over the holiday and a special well done to those who read at least 14 times over the 18 day holiday! We have given as a reward: 2 House points and an Above and Beyond sticker (the latter to come next week in Friday's Collective Worship). Please keep supporting your child with their reading - both listening to them read for accuracy and fluency, as well as asking them questions to build up their understanding. It all makes such a positive difference to their reading, spelling and writing.
