5th December
Another busy yet productive week in Year 2, interlaced with Nativity songs and practises. We have paused each day to watch a section of the Christmas story read by a different staff member, then reflected on what we might learn from the characters and happenings of the story.
We have also begun writing our monster report, starting with the section on appearance, we will complete this next week. In Maths, we enthusiastically embraced our new unit of 2D shapes by counting sides and vertices. Next week, our focus will continue with 3Dshape.
This week's learning:
RE - we explored why many Christians display crib scenes in their homes and in churches.
PE - we practised dribbling and passing skills.
History - we completed our Explorers unit by comparing our 2 famous explorers: Christopher Columbus and Ellen MacArthur.
Science - we began to compare Arctic and Antarctic habitats
Home Learning
Spellings - due to the pantomime next Tuesday afternoon, we will NOT be having a spelling test. Tuesday, 16th December will be our final spelling test of the term. Please help your child to practise learning their spellings.
Please continue to read at least 5 times each week and sign the Reading Record. Reading assessments will take place this week and next, so please ensure that your child has their reading Record and books in school every day.
Change Maker Project: please encourage your child to complete one activity from the Compassion section of the CMP. We have already had a number of thank you cards and letters for various staff members as well as evidence of tidying up specific areas of the classroom! Long may this continue!!
Nativity Programme cover
Year 2 provide the design for the nativity programme. If your child would like to make a drawing for the programme cover please send this in on Monday.
The Nativity: We are excited to show you our KS1 performance of 'The Nativity' and look forward to seeing you at one of the performances on Thursday 11th, 9:30am or 2pm. Please Iet your child know which performance you will be at, as it stops worry and confusion in the classroom beforehand.
Please could ALL base layers come into school, in a named carrier bag (preferably with a handle) on Monday. If your child has an angel costume that they would like to wear, then please do send that in. Swords for the soldiers would also be welcomed if you have one at home. Song words were sent home this week so do encourage them to practise.
To wet your appetite, Years 1 and 2 will be singing 3 songs from our show on Saturday at the school Christmas fayre. Please do join us at the fayre if you can. It is always so great to be together as a community.
Best wishes
Mrs Lee and Mrs Bartram
