Year 3 have been superstars this week in the heat, enjoying all of the extra measures put in place to help keep us cool. We ended the week with our Family Group Diversity Day, which we all thoroughly enjoyed.
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our Maths Workshop. We hope you enjoyed the session and took away some ideas to try with your child at home. For those who were unable to attend, the slides will be shared with you.
English
We have been exploring and developing our persuasion toolkits, focusing on using exciting adjectives to create a sense of urgency, cause-and-effect statements, and boastful, exaggerated vocabulary to set the tone of a persuasive piece of writing.
Maths
We have concluded our unit on money and have now moved on to time. If you notice any clocks with Roman numerals over the weekend, please take a moment to discuss these with your child and what each numeral represents:
I = 1
V = 5
X = 10
Foundation Subjects
Art – We created our own complementary colour wheels using watercolours before designing a rainforest-themed surface pattern.
Geography – We researched the animals of the Amazon Rainforest and created a fact file about our favourite one.
Science – We concluded our topic on plants by analysing the results of our plant experiment, investigating what happens when one of the factors needed for healthy plant growth is removed.
PSHE – We discussed personal space and watched the NSPCC Pantosaurus video.
Diversity Week
This week, we celebrated our annual Diversity Week. We began by reflecting on how wonderfully unique each one of us is and ended the week by exploring how, despite our differences, we all belong. Through activities based around themes such as light, food, stories with meaning (including Jesus' parables), celebrations, gifts and generosity, the children discovered both the things that make us different and the values we all share.
Your child has brought home their Diversity Passport. Please take some time to complete it together and return it to school by Tuesday. Once completed, children will receive their stickers for each theme. We are looking forward to celebrating everyone's learning with a special Diversity Week display. Above and Beyond stickers will be awarded to all children that bring these back completed and by Tuesday.
Democracy in Action
This week also saw our prospective Head Boy and Head Girl candidates share their speeches before the whole school. Our current Pupil Leadership Team led the entire election process, demonstrating fantastic leadership and responsibility. The children took their right to vote extremely seriously, carefully listening to each candidate before casting their vote. Any children who left early due to the hot weather will have the opportunity to vote on Monday, ensuring every voice is heard. We look forward to announcing the results very soon!
This week's Reflection
In our Collective Worship, we explored the philosophical question: "What could help me to keep going when I feel like giving up?" Together, the children thought about the three most important things they would keep in their own 'toolbox' to help them persevere through challenges. We would love you to continue this conversation at home by asking your child what they chose for their toolbox and discussing what you would include in yours.
Home Learning
Doodle
Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths, and Times Tables. Assignments have been set to build upon the learning we have covered in class.
Reading
Please ensure you listen to your child read at least five times each week and sign their reading record on each occasion. This allows them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts. Please also ensure that reading books are brought into school on their allocated changing day, as noted on the front of their reading records.

Despite the hot weather, the children have shown great resilience and enthusiasm all week. We hope everyone has a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for the Summer Fair!

What a fabulous week, ending with a wonderful World Book Day and Bedtime Story Pyjama Day. The children’s costumes were amazing, and we truly loved celebrating their efforts with them in class.
In English, we have started to unpick Dorothy’s letter and the toolkits that link with this recount topic. This week, we explored the steps needed to compose exciting complex sentences that not only hook the reader but also give them a taster of what is to come later in the letter.
In Maths, we explored how to convert mm and cm into equivalent lengths and then moved on to linking this knowledge when adding and subtracting lengths. Next week, we will be focusing on perimeter before moving on to our next unit, which focusses on fractions.
Foundation Subjects
Geography – We compiled our own fact file pages all about the Sahara Desert, exploring its location, size, climate, wildlife, and the societies that live there.
Science – This week, we explored animal skeletons and how these fall into one of three types: endoskeletons, exoskeletons, and hydrostatic skeletons.
PSHE – We explored the terms income and saving and applied this knowledge to help Harold decide what he could afford to buy with his pocket money.
PE – We worked on our handball passing skills and making space to enable successful movement between players.
RE – This week, we shone a light on Mary, the mother of Jesus, considering what her thoughts and feelings might have been on Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday.
