Friday 27th March
Year 3, you should all be so proud of yourselves; you have all been phenomenal! You have given your all this term and grown in so many ways, it has been a pleasure to teach and guide you. Have a wonderful break over the Easter holidays, come back refreshed, and ready to take on the summer term.
This week in English, we completed our shared write, collectively producing a letter recount to Aunt Lucy detailing Paddington’s first day in London. After the holidays, we will be getting our creative juices flowing as we draft and produce our own independent letter recounts based on a day in the Sahara Desert.
In Maths, we continued our unit on fractions by exploring and comparing non-unit fractions. We then applied this knowledge to placing fractions on a number line and using a variety of scales to measure amounts using fractions. We will be continuing with this theme next half term.
Foundation Subjects:
Science – We thoroughly enjoyed our ‘Healthy Heroes’ workshop, which was a fantastic way to round off our topic on the human body.
DT – We finished painting the outer bodies of our locomotive models and will be adding the final details next term.
Home Learning:
Doodle – This will remain available over the holidays so that your child can continue to build upon their star gaining efforts.
Reading – Please do continue to listen to your child read during the holidays and sign their reading record each time.
Spellings – None until after the holidays.
Holiday Challenge:
I would love you to show off your amazing letter-writing skills by writing me a letter about a memorable day, trip, or holiday you enjoyed over the Easter holidays.
In your letter, try to include these toolkits:
- A great opening sentence to hook your reader in your first paragraph
- A longer complex sentence explaining when, where, and what happened
- Time adverbials or phrases (e.g. Later that day, The next morning) at the start of your other paragraphs
- Prepositional phrases (e.g. under the table, by the beach, in the park)
I can’t wait to read your fantastic letters! You will earn house points for each skill you include.
Happy writing!
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable Easter break.
I look forward to seeing you all again on Wednesday 15th April.
