Friday 15th May

Year 3 have had a wonderful week, with the added highlight of taking part in a session with the Schools Sports Partnership to learn all about Rapid Fire Cricket.

In English, we have been completing a variety of short-burst writing activities to explore each element of our suspense toolkit. We have also spent time analysing the model text to identify where these features appear in each paragraph. Next week, we will be applying these skills when we plan and write our own suspense stories.

In Maths, we have now completed our unit on mass and capacity. Next week, we will be moving on to our next fractions unit, where we will explore adding and subtracting fractions in a variety of ways.

Foundation Subjects:

History – We compared the Stone Age with Ancient Egypt, exploring their gods, beliefs, and rituals to understand what they reveal about society’s values.

Design and Technology (DT) – We cut out all the fabric pieces needed to construct our Egyptian collars and pinned them in place to ensure we were happy with our designs ahead of sewing next week.

Science – We carried out an investigation using celery and food colouring to help us understand how water is transported within plants.

PSHE – We explored the importance of celebrating how each of us is unique and how we can share and celebrate our differences.

RE – This week, we found out about the role of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian — from helping them to pray, to guiding them, to helping them become more like Jesus. We ended the lesson with a fun song about the Fruits of the Spirit.

PE – We put together the skills we have been learning and played a game of rounders, having a go at being both batters and fielders.

Home Learning:

Doodle

Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths, and Times Tables.

Reading

Please ensure you listen to your child read at least five times each week and sign their reading record on each occasion. This allows them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts. Also, please ensure that reading books are brought into school on their allocated changing day, as noted on the front of their reading records.
