Friday 12th June

Year 3 have ended our busy week of learning with a fabulous visit to Kew Gardens!   The children thoroughly enjoyed seeing many of the beautiful and unusual plants at Kew, and taking part in a workshop exploring the plants and products of the Amazon Rainforest.

In English, we completed the editing process for our own suspense stories and have been busy publishing our final versions.

In Maths, we started our new unit on money by recapping and building upon our knowledge of pounds and pence, as well as learning how to convert from one to the other.

Foundation Subjects:

Art – We started our new topic on rainforest patterns and explored the work of native artist Nixiwaka Yawanawa.

Geography – We immersed ourselves in a rainforest experience at Kew Gardens.

DT – We continued creating our cross-stitch and appliqué samples for our Egyptian collars.

Science – We explored the parts of a flower and their role in the life cycle of flowering plants.

Music – We learnt how to play a melody containing the notes A and B.

Home Learning

Doodle

Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths, and Times Tables.  Assignments have been set to build upon the learning we have covered in class.

Reading

Please ensure you listen to your child read at least five times each week and sign their reading record on each occasion. This allows them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts. Please also ensure that reading books are brought into school on their allocated changing day, as noted on the front of their reading records.

Spellings

Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and within sentences.

This week’s spelling rule focusses on a mastery level of adding the ‘ous’ suffix:

mountainous,   various,   hazardous,  furious,   momentous,   victorious,  outrageous,  glorious,  envious,  dangerous

Change Maker Project

This half term, we are focusing on the value of Perseverance. Please do continue to support your child as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity.
