Friday 19th June

What a busy but rewarding week it has been in Year 3!

In English, we have completed publishing our suspense stories.  We also came into the classroom to find that our chairs had gone on strike, leaving us with a letter explaining why they were so upset.   The children used their powers of persuasion to apologise to the chairs and explain why we need and value them in our classroom.  Next week, we will continue to explore the toolkits linked to our new writing topic on persuasion.

In Maths, we continued with our unit on money by exploring how to add and subtract amounts of money, as well as calculate change. Next week, we will complete this unit and move on to learning about time.

Foundation Subjects:

Art – We completed observational sketches of rainforest plants, using both pencil and pastels, inspired by the plants we saw at Kew Gardens.

Geography – We carried out research on the Amazon Rainforest to compile our own fact-file pages.

Science – We explored the process of pollination and the different ways seeds are dispersed to help plants reproduce.

PSHE – We explored the various relationships we have in our lives.

RE - We explored the opening verses of the Bible and discussed God's creation of the world. We then wrote letters as if we were God, encouraging people to care for and protect the world he created.

PE - We practised our short and long distance runs.  We also practised the obstacle course ready for Sports Day.

Home Learning

Doodle

Please continue to support your child’s progress by accessing the Doodle Learning platform and ensuring they remain in the green zone for English, Maths, and Times Tables.  Assignments have been set to build upon the learning we have covered in class.

Reading

Please ensure you listen to your child read at least five times each week and sign their reading record on each occasion. This allows them to be rewarded with a star stamp for their efforts. Please also ensure that reading books are brought into school on their allocated changing day, as noted on the front of their reading records.

Spellings

Below are this week’s spelling words to practise with your child, both in isolation and within sentences.

This week’s spelling rule focusses on words ending in the ‘-sion’  suffix:

Explosion,   decision,   erosion,   precision,   invasion,   confusion,   invasion,  conclusion,   dispersion,   fusion

Change Maker Project

This half term, we are focusing on the value of Perseverance.  Please do continue to support your child as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity.

Have a wonderful weekend
