Friday 24th April

In Geography, we have started learning about how energy reaches our homes from power stations. We created posters to show this journey and also identified and marked the locations of power stations across Great Britain.
In Science, we explored electrical circuits. We began by building simple series circuits and then progressed to circuits that included a switch. We enjoyed constructing these using wires, bulbs, cells (batteries) and switches.
In Maths, we have been dividing one- and two-digit numbers by 100. We also learned about hundredths as both decimals and fractions. We brought this learning to life using Numicon and place value charts, which helped to address misconceptions.
In English, we have continued learning our model text, focusing on “show, don’t tell,” the use of short sentences to build mystery, and repetition for effect.
In Guided Reading, we explored a news article titled ‘Why Cats Rule the Internet’.
In RE, we have been learning about the Hindu celebration of Raksha Bandhan. We discovered how a sister gives a ‘rakhi’ bracelet to her brother, friend or cousin to symbolise a duty of care and protection.
In DT, we have been surveying games that include electrical loops in preparation for designing and making our own. Thank you to everyone who kindly lent us games.
In PE, we began learning to play rounders. This included practising overarm and underarm throws and understanding the roles of batters, bowlers and fielders.
In Spelling, we explored the spelling pattern “ch” making the /k/ sound, which originates from Ancient Greek.
Changemaker project - I introduced the tasks that are part of the ‘Changemaker’ project for this half term for the value ‘Courage’. Please encourage your child to take part to achieve a sticker.
