Friday 8th May

Year 4 had a fantastic day at the Amersham Field Centre yesterday, taking part in an exciting electric circuits workshop! The children explored how circuits work by acting out the different parts of an electrical circuit, bringing their science learning to life in a fun and interactive way. They also got creative by making habitats for the glis glis and discovered how grey squirrels hide food through a fun chickpea-hiding challenge. It was a brilliant day filled with hands-on learning, teamwork and outdoor discovery. Well done, Year 4! A huge thank you as well to all of our parent helpers for their support throughout the trip. Please also take a look at the Year 4 Google Classroom, where you can find a video compilation of our day.
In English, we completed a reading comprehension based on our model text and boxed up our story, ready to ‘hug the text’ next week.
During Guided Reading, we explored an excerpt from The Curse of the School Rabbit, which led to a thoughtful discussion about the idea of ‘showing off’ and its impact on others.
In RE, we explored a range of Hindu rituals and practices, including celebrations, yoga, samskaras, puja, pilgrimage and mantras.
In Science, the children predicted and tested which materials are conductors and insulators within an electrical circuit.
In Maths, we have been learning about money, including converting pounds to pence, understanding the value of digits in decimalised amounts and comparing different amounts of money.
Please remind your child, if they haven’t already done so, to select an activity to carry out for the Changemaker project.
Homework:
Spellings - available to practise on Doodle or on the sheet sent home with them today.
Times Tables - with the Multiplication Check fast approaching, please can you encourage your child to complete the 7 Soundcheck games and 10 Studio games. There is a tournament between the houses taking place which ends on Tuesday.

Reading - please encourage your child to read at least 5 times a week. It is still valuable for children in Year 4 to be reading aloud to an adult as this helps with fluency, expression and pronunciation.
