Friday 22nd May

We have enjoyed STEM week and with David Atteborough as our inspiration. The children created their own documentary scripts to accompany images of desert animals, including tarantulas, fennec foxes, camels, snakes and scorpions. To make the experience even more authentic, they recorded voice-overs in the style of David Attenborough himself!

In Science, we completed our Electricity topic by designing and building circuits with switches. We explored which materials would make the most effective switches, identifying the importance of combining both insulating and conducting materials.

In English, we were inspired by Theseus and the Minotaur to write our own suspense stories. Using the writing toolkit, the children crafted tension-filled narratives before publishing their polished “hot write” pieces.

In Maths, we have been learning about decimals: comparing and partitioning them, as well as exploring decimal number bonds to one whole in hundredths. We discussed, for example, why 6.2 is greater than 6.18, understanding that 2 tenths has a greater value than 1 tenth. We also practised calculations such as 0.57 + 0.43 = 1.

During Guided Reading, we explored an extract from The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton, leading to a thoughtful and heartwarming discussion about the importance and magic of childhood.

In Geography, we investigated solar power as a renewable energy source and considered its benefits for the environment.

In RE, we completed our topic on Hinduism. The children engaged in another thoughtful discussion about how to live honourably, exploring why Hindus believe that dharma — duty and living the right way — is so important.

Finally, in DT, we designed and created our own electrical loop games. Applying our understanding of circuits, the children built steady-hand games and were delighted to see their designs come to life.

Homework

TTRS - there is a battle between four randomly selected groups. I have limited the time to 20 minutes per day. Please encourage your child to participate because the Multiplication Check will take place in June.

Reading - please support your child to read at least 5 times a week. A massive well done to Henry and Florence who have achieved the Head Teacher’s award for reading.

Doodle - although assignments have not been set for half term if is still valuable for the pupils to achieve their daily 7 tasks.
