5th June

In Maths this week we have finished our topic on decimals. We looked at a quarter, half and three quarters as decimals (0.25, 0.5 and 0.75), to order decimals in ascending and descending order, to compare decimals and round decimals to the nearest integer (whole number).
It was wonderful to see all the parents attending the Maths workshop this morning.
In English we have kicked off our persuasive writing topic. Our classroom chairs had finally had enough of being sat on, dragged around and generally mistreated, so they decided to refuse to do their job! The children were given the challenge of persuading their disrespected chairs to return to work by writing convincing letters explaining just how desperately they needed them.
To strengthen their arguments, the children used rhetorical questions, emotive language, and facts and information to support their ideas. From heartfelt promises of better treatment to compelling reasons why the classroom simply couldn’t function without them, the children worked hard to make their writing as persuasive as possible. Luckily, we managed to convince them to return to their role.
In Science, we have started our topic on Living Things and their Habitats: Conservation. We were understanding that habitats around the world experience different seasons which changes their ecosystem. We investigated two countries from the northern hemisphere and two from the southern hemisphere, looking at the number of seasons they have and the animals that live in those environments.
In PSHE we have begun our topic on Changing and Growing. We talked about changes this week and thought about the positives and negatives that come with changes. We read a story and thought about this in relation to the ‘Learning Line’, how life can become difficult and our ability to adjust and adapt to new situations.
In Music I was treated to a rendition of ‘Baby Shark’ on their recorders. What a joy to hear them playing in unison.
A reminder about the Summer Concert on Friday 3rd July. It would be a great opportunity for your child to perform if they have music lessons, either in or out of school. Please sign up on the email that was sent so we can arrange the performances.
Change Maker Project
This half term, we are focusing on the value of Perseverance. Your child has selected an activity to work on during our class-based collective worship. Please continue to support them as they collect and record evidence of their chosen activity.
