What an incredible Sports Week!
We have been so fortunate to experience such a wide variety of exciting sporting activities this week.
On Monday, we welcomed ex-St Mary's student Niobe, who spoke to the school about her journey as a goalkeeper and how she earned her place on the Welsh national team. She was a truly inspirational visitor, and the class thoroughly enjoyed taking part in a goalkeeping workshop with her.
On Tuesday, the children spent their PE lesson preparing for Sports Day, practising their skills and getting ready for the exciting events ahead.
Wednesday brought our exhilarating trip to the Aquadrome. The children began by working in pairs on paddleboards, learning how to manoeuvre them safely and confidently. They then moved on to the giant stand-up paddleboards, where they had great fun balancing, traversing the boards and, of course, ending up in the water! It was wonderful to see such fantastic teamwork, encouragement and kindness as the children supported one another throughout the day. I have posted a video of our adventures on the Year 4 Google Classroom.
On Thursday, the class enjoyed playing Kin-Ball, an exciting team game using a giant inflatable ball. It was a brilliant way to develop communication and cooperation while having lots of fun.
To round off such an active week, Sports Day was the perfect finale. The children showed determination, resilience and excellent sportsmanship, and we were incredibly proud of them all.
In Science, we explored water conservation and discussed ways we can reduce the amount of water we use. The children were challenged to invent their own water-saving device, carefully considering who would use it and how it would help conserve water.
In PSHE, we discussed the important difference between a secret and a surprise. The children were reminded that if they are ever worried about a secret, they should always speak to a trusted adult.
As part of our 'Feel It!' emotional literacy programme, the class reflected on the wide range of emotions we have explored throughout the year. They considered times when they have experienced feelings such as generosity, satisfaction, shock, shame, motivation, curiosity, exhaustion, irritation, enthusiasm, insecurity, connection and stress, as well as how these emotions can feel within our bodies.
In Maths, we continued our work on coordinates by plotting points on a grid and creating shapes. We have been using our helpful reminder: "Along the corridor, up the stairs" to remember the order of the x-axis and y-axis.
In English, the children typed up their persuasive Hot Write, using the plans they created last week. They wrote five well-structured paragraphs to persuade their reader about a chosen topic before carefully publishing their final pieces in their Publishing Books.
