7th November

It has been a great first week back after half term!

In English, we have started our new Talk for Writing topic on non-chronological reports. Our model text, which we have begun to learn, is all about Cloud Goblins! To hook us into our learning, we illustrated our own imagined Cloud Goblins on teabags, then lit them so they could float up towards the clouds — some were more successful than others!

In Maths, our focus has been on area. We explored how to calculate the area of rectangles and rectilinear shapes using ‘squares’ as our unit of measure. Later in the year, we will develop this further by using centimetres and metres. We also enjoyed learning a new 3 Times Table Song, sung to the tune of Green Green Grass by George Ezra! 3 Times Table Song (Green Green Grass by George Ezra)

Yesterday, we began our new History topic: The Romans. We looked at ancient buildings in Rome that still stand today and reflect aspects of Roman society.

In Art, we completed an Artist Study of Hannah Rae and Alice Kettle, both textile artists. Pupils chose one artist to feature in a double-page spread in their sketchbooks, considering the artist’s style, colour choices, and subject matter. We will soon begin creating our own mixed-media artwork combining cloth, paint, and thread.

In PE, we have started learning Netball, focusing on the positions on court and practising different types of passes — overarm, chest pass, and bounce pass.

Every Friday morning, I set new assignments on Doodle Learning for Maths and English homework. Reading Records are also checked and stamped on Fridays for children who have read at least five times during the week. We were delighted to celebrate six children achieving their Bronze Reading Badge this week!
