Friday 30th January

What another fantastic week it has been in Year 5!

In English, the children have been busy planning their shared write for a setting description. They thought carefully about atmosphere, sensory detail and using their toolkit.  It has been wonderful to see them drawing on everything they’ve learnt this term to craft settings that truly come alive for the reader.

In Maths, we have continued to consolidate our understanding of multiplying 2‑digit by 2‑digit numbers. The children showed great determination as they revisited the column method, checking each step with increasing accuracy and confidence. Their perseverance is really paying off.

In Geography, our learning took us on a journey to discover where chocolate comes from. The children explored the process from cacao bean to chocolate bar and discussed what it means to trade responsibly.

In PE, we explored how we can effectively work as a team (even without being allowed to communicate) to complete a challenge of tic tac toe.

In RE, we learned about how the Qur’an began. The children approached the story with curiosity and respect, reflecting on why its origins are so significant for Muslims and how sacred texts shape beliefs and practices.

Home Learning Please ensure that children are ‘in the green’ on Doodle.

English – using commas for parenthesis

Maths – estimating calculations for addition and subtraction

Spellings – conscious, cautious, vicious, infectious, spacious, nutritious, malicious, superstitious, ambitious, tenacious

Please continue to encourage your child to read aloud to an adult five times a week. This regular practice builds fluency, confidence and a lifelong love of reading.

The Change Maker Project:

We spent time this week in class-based Collective Worship, discussing the 4 activities in this half-term's Change Maker Project. Please encourage your child to complete one TRUST activity before the last week of this half-term. We have loved seeing the variety of activities from the Friendship and Compassion sections so far.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
