Friday 27th February 2026

We have had a very busy first week back in Year 5!

We kicked off the week with a crime scene in the classroom to start our new English unit on recounts. The children were excellent investigators and understood the importance of stating facts in chronological order.

In Maths, we have begun looking at multiplying both unit and non unit fractions by an integer. The children have been working really well using their time table knowledge and drawing on their skills of converting between improper and mixed number fractions.

We had another visit from Elaine, Alan and Ryun this week for our Mini Police programme. The children took to the pavement by school and assisted the officers on checking whether people were driving over the speed limit. They were tasked with remembering the number plates, make, model and colour of the car. The children did a great job - we caught someone going 42mph!

On Monday, the children were introduced to the Lent challenge where everyday they are given a task to have a go at. It has been lovely to see so many of them taking on this responsibility so positively.

We also discussed the different tasks for this half term's changemaker - Forgiveness. Please encourage your children to begin on the project at home.

Home Learning Please ensure that children are ‘in the green’ on Doodle.

  • English – Modal verbs of possibility

  • Maths – Converting improper fractions to mixed number fractions

  • Spellings – foreign, reign, knowledge, autumn, comb, campaign, hymn, succumb, condemn, design

Reading should be at least 5 times a week and an adult needs to sign to acknowledge that this is happening. Please ensure you are completing the reading record at home.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
