14th November

There has been a lot of exciting learning happening in Year 5 this week.

In English, we been exploring the different aspects of our current toolkit. We have considered the impact that lists of three sentences can have on our writing and how we can write with a formal and factual tone.

Using resources to support our understanding, we have looked at squared and cubed numbers in Maths. We have learned that when making a square number with cubes or counters, we can see from the multiplication that it makes a square!

Everyone has begun their DT automata constructions. We have learned how to use a bench hook and a hacksaw to cut wood successfully and will begin assembling the frames next week.

In Science, we tested different materials for whether they were magnetic, conductive or transparent and have begun to consider how the properties of a material dictate its usage.

We have started our new RE unit of Incarnation. We have looked at extracts from the bible to search for evidence as to whether Jesus was the Messiah.

Home Learning

Please ensure that children are 'in the green' on Doodle.

There are assignments set across English, Maths and Spelling which when completing will not only help with the current and upcoming learning but help children get into the green.

Please ensure that children are reading out loud to an adult five times a week. This really supports their reading fluency and gives you an opportunity to help them read unfamiliar words.

Have a lovely weekend!
