12th June

Year 6 have had another busy and purposeful week, with lots of learning taking place across the curriculum.
On Monday, the class went swimming and started their water safety course, learning important skills to help keep themselves safe in and around water.
In English, the children have been developing their persuasive writing through balanced arguments. They have been looking carefully at how statistics, modal verbs and counter-arguments can be used to strengthen their writing.
In Maths, Year 6 have been converting fractions and decimals, as well as revisiting area and perimeter. Some children have also been supporting learning in other classes, using their mathematical knowledge to help younger pupils.
In Science, the class started their new unit on looking after the environment. They explored recycling and renewable energy before carrying out a school audit to look at how electricity is used around the school.
In Computing, the children began their new unit on sensors and started programming using micro. In PE, they have been continuing with athletics and practising key skills in preparation for Sports Day.
In RE, Year 6 have been exploring what it means to have faith. They looked at the story of David and Goliath and considered what this teaches us about courage, trust and how faith can encourage people when facing challenges.
The Watford School Trust also visited the class this week to talk to the children about transition to secondary school. This was a valuable opportunity for the children to think about the next exciting stage of their journey.
Aylmerton:
We are now very much looking forward to the Year 6 residential next week. Please note the change in timings: all pupils need to be in the school hall at 8:00am, ready for a prompt departure at 8:30am.
The children have been reminded about the kit list and what they need to bring in their rucksacks. This should include:
- a reading book;
- a water bottle;
- a packed lunch in a plastic bag;
- a healthy snack for the journey;
- a rain jacket;
- a sun hat.
We are sure the children will have a fantastic time and make many special memories together.
