Keeping You in the Loop: Our Commitment to Communication

At St Mary’s, we’re proud of how we keep you informed about your child’s learning and progress. We know that when school and home work closely together, children flourish - and that partnership is something we truly value.

Following discussions with our Parent Reps, we introduced Target Reports in both the autumn and spring terms. These include your child’s latest assessment information and individual targets, giving you a clear picture of how they are doing and what they are working on next.

We send these reports before parent consultations so that you have time to read them and come to your meeting feeling prepared.

Autumn term

Families receive an Autumn Target Report and attend a parent consultation to discuss their child’s learning, progress and next steps.

These opportunities are staggered across the term. Reception and Key Stage 1 families receive their reports and attend consultations in the first half term, while Key Stage 2 families have a Book Look. In the second half term, this reverses: Key Stage 2 families receive their reports and attend consultations, while Reception and Key Stage 1 families have a Book Look.

Spring term

Families receive a Spring Target Report and attend a second parent consultation. This provides an opportunity to review progress, celebrate achievements and discuss the next steps in their child’s learning.

Book Looks also continue, giving families opportunities to see how their child’s learning is developing.

Summer term

Families receive an end-of-year report, celebrating their child’s progress and achievements across the year and identifying areas for continued development.

Book Looks continue during the summer term, allowing children to share their work and reflect on what they have learnt.

Regular opportunities to see learning

Across the year, our half-termly programme of Book Looks gives families valuable opportunities to see their child’s work first-hand and talk together about their learning. Dates and arrangements for each year group are shared through our usual school communications.

Support for children with SEND

For children on SEND Support or with an EHCP, there are termly plans and a short online meeting at the start of each term to review progress and discuss next steps. These provide a regular opportunity for families and staff to work together on the support their child needs.

Keeping in touch

Our door is always open. If you have a concern or feel you need to meet, please contact us so that we can arrange an appropriate time to talk.

I also want to recognise how hard our staff work to make all of this possible. Every report, meeting and plan takes time, care and thought. Staff show dedication to every child, and I see that commitment every day. Please keep this in mind and be considerate of their workload when requesting additional meetings or updates.

We’re proud to provide these opportunities because we believe your partnership makes a difference. Thank you for working with us to help every child flourish.
