Meet Cindy
Cindy is a small Cavapoo who has been part of life at St Mary’s since she was a puppy. Now 4½ years old, many of our children have grown up alongside her and love seeing her around school.
More than just a friendly face, Cindy plays an important role in supporting children’s wellbeing. Whether it’s offering comfort during tricky times or helping children to open up when words are hard to find, Cindy has a calming presence that makes a real difference.
We are proud to be registered with the Pets As Therapy Scheme, and Cindy is one of our trained therapy dogs. She visits school on a regular basis and will always be based in a quiet room, away from the classrooms, on a lead and under careful supervision at all times.
Research has shown that having therapy dogs in schools can support children in a number of powerful ways:
Reducing stress and promoting calm
Increasing confidence and school attendance
Improving motivation and attitudes toward learning
Enhancing reading and writing progress
Building stronger relationships with peers and adults
Developing empathy, communication, and social skills
Cindy is a much-loved part of our St Mary’s family, and we’re so pleased to share the joy, comfort, and encouragement she brings with all our children.
