Music

At St Mary's, we believe that music is far more than learning to sing or play an instrument. It is a powerful way for children to express themselves, build confidence, develop resilience and experience the joy of working together. Music allows every child to shine, regardless of their starting point, and plays a vital role in nurturing creativity, wellbeing and a lifelong appreciation of the arts.

From the moment children join our school, they are immersed in a rich and varied musical journey. Through singing, performing, composing and listening, our pupils develop confidence, teamwork, perseverance and a love of music that extends far beyond the classroom.

Alongside our curriculum, many of our pupils choose to develop their musical talents through specialist peripatetic lessons. We currently offer individual tuition in drums, guitar and piano, with exciting plans to expand these opportunities further as our music provision continues to grow.

Music is woven throughout our curriculum, giving every child the opportunity to learn and perform an instrument:

  • Year 2 – Whole-class Glockenspiel
  • Years 3 & 4 – Whole-class Recorder
  • Years 5 & 6 – Whole-class Ukulele

Our thriving St Mary's Choir is another source of great pride, regularly performing both within school and in the wider community. Choir members develop not only their musical skills but also confidence, teamwork and the courage to perform in front of an audience.

Take a look at this short clip from our July 2026 Music Concert and experience the joy, confidence and passion for music that fills our school. It is a wonderful celebration of everything that makes music such an important part of life at St Mary's.
