Autumn 1 Topic - Marvellous Me

Coming Home

As part of Black History Month we have spent our week thinking about what it might be like travelling from Trinidad to England. We compared the weather and fruit we would find in each country. We also learned some songs to help us understand how everyone is unique and no matter our differences we are kind to everyone. We are excited to share these with you at our showcase. In Maths we were learning about numbers 1,2,3 and the children have loved getting to know the Numberblocks. Some of the children, even decided to draw their own Numberblocks and create them out of the cubes. We didn’t get a chance to try plantain this week, so we will be doing that next week.

Leaf Man

We have had such a lovely week full of autumn activities. On our autumn walk we found a hazelnut, helicopters and lots of autumnal leaves. We have used these items to help us create our Andy Goldsworthy sculptures, leaf men and lots of patterns.  The children are very excited about learning their new phonic sounds. A big thank you to the families who donated seeds to our herb garden it has now been planted and put safely on a warm windowsill. We can’t wait for them to grow and use the herbs in our mud kitchen.

The children have also been busy creating their custom Christmas cards that we hope you will order to support the school.

1.10.21                                        Oliver's Vegetables

We have enjoyed an interesting week in Reception. We tasted the vegetables from Oliver’s Vegetables including beetroot, spinach and mange tout. The children showed great bravery in trying lots of new tastes. The children were also excited to search for seeds in old sunflower heads and it gave them lots of practise with tweezers. We harvested our first pumpkin this week from our Reception garden and the children enjoyed describing it. Thank you to all the families that collected autumn materials and donated seeds for us. Another big thank you for your generosity in the Harvest collection.
