At St Mary’s School, we recognise our responsibility under section 175 of the Education Act 2002 to safeguard and promote the welfare of our children.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place which contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our Child Protection Policy which can be viewed in the ‘Statutory Information – Policies’ section of the School website.
Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
We actively support the Government’s PREVENT agenda to counter radicalism and extremism. The Governor overseeing Safeguarding at St Mary’s School is Mrs Fran Willett.
All staff and governors of St Mary's School receive statutory safeguarding training annually. Our Designated Senior Person (DSP) for Safeguarding is Mrs Natasha Maxwell (Headteacher). We have two Deputy Designated Senior Persons (DDSP) for Safeguarding: Mrs Miranda Collett and Mrs Debbie Sharp.
